Feeding Instructions for Pediatric Outpatient Procedures
For your child's safety, it is very important that you follow these feeding instructions. If these feeding instructions are not followed, your child's procedure may be delayed or cancelled. Feeding Instructions
Children age 1 year and older
will be NPO (nothing by mouth):
- For solids: 8 hours before scheduled procedure or scan.
- For clear liquids: 2 hours before scheduled procedure or scan.
Children age 6 months to 12 months
will be NPO (nothing by mouth):
- For solids: 8 hours before scheduled procedure scan.
- For breast milk or formula: 6 hours before scheduled procedure or scan.
- For clear liquids: 2 hours before scheduled procedure or scan.
Infants up to 6 months of age
will be NPO (nothing by mouth):
- For solids: 8 hours before scheduled procedure scan.
- For breast milk or formula: 6 hours before scheduled procedure or scan.
- For clear liquids: 2 hours before scheduled procedure or scan.
Clear liquids include the following:
- Water
- Pedialyte
- Apple juice
- Popsicles
- Clear Broth
- Plain Jell-O
