A Tour of the Pediatric Unit
Welcome to the Pediatric Unit | Pediatric Intensive Care UnitWelcome to the Pediatric Unit

Our playroom: Patients and siblings can play with toys and games, read books or work on art projects here. The playroom also provides a different atmosphere than one's hospital room. A separate recreation room is available for older children.
Recreation Room: This room features a pool table, computer and wide screen television to help entertain older children and their siblings.
Patient Room: Our Pediatric Unit can accommodate 27 children. We encourage parents to stay with their child and promote the family’s involvement during the child’s hospital stay. Room service is available in our Pediatric Units, so a patient and parent can select from our pediatric or adult menus and the meal will be delivered within 40 minutes.
Lounge: This lounge area gives families a place to take a break. Often times, the cafeteria seems too far away for a parent, so this space allows them to share a meal with their family or have some quiet time.
Hallway: This area leading to the Pediatric Unit features a forest theme.
Treatment Room: To make a child feel safe in his/her room, we try not to do any procedures — especially painful ones — in the room. Instead, this treatment room is used for procedures such as spinal taps and IVs. It has a television and artwork to help provide distraction.
Nurses Station: Our nurses station is centrally located outside patient rooms.
"Little Wishes": This board describes the wishes of sick patients. "Little Wishes" is a private, non-profit fund started by two California Pacific Pediatric Nurses that raises money to help grant sick children's requests.
Our pediatric wheelchairs have a seat belt, IV poles, and are "parent-powered," meaning that a parent has to push the child around in it. Traditional wheelchairs are also available.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides care to infant, toddler, preschool, school-aged and adolescent children through age 21.
PICU Room Our 8-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit has private rooms for families, enabling parents to spend the night with their child. We also have an 8-bed Step-Down Unit for children who no longer need intensive care but are not yet ready for the Pediatric Unit.
Nurses Station: Our nurses station is located outside the pediatric rooms to provide patients with easy acess to their medical team.
Patient Monitoring: Glass doors and curtains in all our PICU rooms offer the best of all worlds: nurses can observe patients from outside the room if necessary, or families can have extreme privacy if they shut their door and curtain.
