Tour CPMC's Pediatric Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Welcome to CPMC's Pediatric UnitsPediatric Unit - 5th Floor | Pediatric Intensive Care Unit - 3rd Floor
Pediatric Unit - 5th Floor
Playroom: Patients and siblings can play with toys and games, read books or work on art projects here. The playroom also provides a different atmosphere than one's hospital room. A separate recreation room is available for older children.
Recreation Room: This room features a pool table, computer and wide screen television to help entertain older children and their siblings.
Patient Room: The Pediatric Unit is licensed for 27 pediatric patients. Most rooms accommodate one to two patients. We encourage at least one parent to stay with their child during the child’s hospital stay and promote family involvement. Room service is available in our pediatric units. A parent and child can select from our child or adult menu and expect meal delivery within 40 minutes.
Lounge: This lounge gives families a place to take a break. Often times, the cafeteria seems too far away for a parent, this space allows families to share a meal or have some quiet time.
Fifth Floor Hallway: This area leading to the pediatric unit features a forest theme.
Treatment Room: To make a child feel safe in his/her room, we try not to do any procedures — especially painful ones — in the room. Instead, this treatment room is used for procedures such as spinal taps and IVs. It has a television and artwork to help provide distraction.
Nurses Station: Our nurses station is centrally located outside patient rooms.
Little Wishes: Little Wishes is a private, non-profit fund started by two California Pacific pediatric nurses that raises money to help grant small but meaningful wishes for sick children. This board shows some of the wishes granted for our pediatric patients. Learn more about Little Wishes or donate to Little Wishes today.
Pediatric Wheelchair: Our pediatric wheelchairs have a seat belt, IV poles, and are "parent-powered," meaning a parent pushes their child around in it. Traditional child-sized wheelchairs are also available.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit - 3rd Floor
PICU Room: Our 8-pediatric intensive care unit has private room for families, enabling parents to spend the night with their child. We also have an 8-bed step-down unit for children who no longer need intensive care but are not yet ready for the pediatric unit.
Nurses Station: The nurses station, located immediately outside the PICU rooms provide patients and their family easy access to their medical team.
Patient Monitoring: Glass doors and curtains in all our PICU rooms offer the best of all worlds, nurses can observe patients from outside the room if necessary, or families can shut the door and curtain for privacy.
