    Movement Disorders

    A subspecialty of neurology, movement disorders focuses on neurologic and /or neuropsychiatric disorders that result in abnormal involuntary movements. These include but are not limited to diagnoses such as:

    • Parkinson’s disease
    • atypical parkinsonism
    • essential tremor
    • dystonia
    • Huntington’s disease
    • various types of tremors
    • muscle spasms (such as hemifacial spasm and blepharospasms)
    • tic disorders
    • gait disorders including ataxia
    The movement disorder clinic at CPMC focuses on a holistic approach to patient care focusing on the body’s own ability to heal along with use of medications as well as other interventions including botulinum toxin injections and surgical treatment of these movement disorders using deep brain stimulation surgery or ablative procedures if needed to improve the quality of every patient’s life.
