CPNI Bulletin - Acute Rehabilitation Issue Winter 2010
Message from Brian T. Andrews, M.D., FACS Neuroscience Institute Chair at CPMC
This issue of CPNI bulletin presents our recent advances in acute rehabilitation at California Pacific Medical Center. In 2010 we were pleased to begin operations in the completely renovated facilities at the Davies campus: two floors equipped with the latest advances for patient safety and comfort. One floor is dedicated to patients with primary brain problems such as head injury and stroke recovery; the second floor is dedicated to patients with spinal cord injury, other spinal disorders, orthopedic recovery, and similar problems. With our stroke service now primarily at the Davies campus Neuroscience Institute, these patients can take advantage of the new rehabilitation facility as quickly as possible. As a practitioner, I now have the opportunity to shorten the stay of my patients on the surgical floor of the hospital, and place them earlier into an environment focused on intensive rehabilitation and discharge planning. We are grateful to the commitment of our terrific rehabilitation team, chaired by Scott Rome, M.D., which includes the many nurses and therapists who persevere every day to make the lives of our patients better. We also thank the administration for getting the renovations completed on the facility, and its ongoing commitment to our efforts in neuroscience.
Sincerely,
BRIAN T. ANDREWS, M.D., FACS
Chairman, Department of Neurosciences
