California Pacific Neuroscience Institute Bulletin
Over the past several years, we have had the pleasure of expanding our specialty programs in neurosciences, along with our capabilities in the areas of general neurology, neuroradiology, and neurosurgery. We have had a tremendous increase in the number of patients with spinal disorders treated on our surgical service. Using primarily minimally invasive techniques, we have helped these patients achieve excellent outcomes with a reduction in the invasiveness and discomfort of spinal surgery. Recovery is quicker, rehabilitation more complete, and patient satisfaction is increased as a result.
We have had a remarkable success with our comprehensive stroke care and neurointerventional program at CPNI, with rates of thrombolysis that are much better than the national averages. Our results are no less than spectacular.
Our epilepsy and seizure disorders program has developed over more than a decade and has become one of the busiest programs in Northern California. This includes a recent novel critical trial of a device to sense epilepsy as it is about to happen and halt it before it becomes a seizure.
In 2003, I began our neuro-oncology tumor board, and I am pleased to say it has expanded into a world-class effort, which enhances the care of our patients with brain tumors and oncologic spinal disorders.
Our memory and dementia care service offers humane and scientific care for the ever-increasing number of patients with dementia.
The final part of this handbook is a quick reference guide for your use, so that you can quickly obtain the names and phone numbers of any of the specialists that are available through CPNI. As well, we reference our fine group of world-class general neurologists, who are available to you for general neurology consultation.
Sincerely,
Brian T. Andrews, M.D., FACS
Chairman, Department of Neurosciences
