Harry J. Buncke, MD was born on July 16, 1922 in Iroquois Falls, Ontario, Canada, and passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2008 in San Francisco at the Davies Campus of California Pacific where he had practiced since 1970. He was 85. He is remembered with love and respect as a medical pioneer, a highly skilled and compassionate physician and surgeon, a mentor, a teacher, and friend.

Dr Buncke is internationally known as "The Father of Microsurgery" for his contributions in the history and development of reconstructive microsurgical procedures. Among those who were privileged to have known him, he was often called a "Prince of Man."
