Visiting GI Scholar Program
Our physicians and staff at the Liver Disease Management & Transplant Program and Center for Complex Digestive Disease welcome gastroenterologists to join us at California Pacific Medical Center for a 2-3 day visit to observe our team in action. In an effort to ensure that one's visit is tailored to your interests, we have developed a flexible schedule with multiple opportunities from which you can choose.
Our Visiting GI Scholar Program is offered monthly, starting in October 2008, during the second week of each month. Visits start on Tuesday (you can select from a full- or half-day slot) and go through Wednesday. If you desire, you can stay for additional sessions on Monday or Thursday.

Tuesday
- 8:00am – 12:00pm: Liver Surgical/Medical ICU Transplant Rounds
- 12:00 – 1:00: Lunch

Observe diagnostic testing techniques including manometry, electrogastrogram, esophageal pH and gastric emptying studies, and endoscopic gastroplication with William Snape, M.D. - Liver Disease Clinic
Join our hepatologists as they examine patients with liver disease and those who have undergone transplant surgery - Hospital Rounds on Hepatology Patients
Join our hepatologist on the inpatient service and liver/GI hospitalists as they round on hepatology patients - 3:00 – 5:00: Liver Transplant Selection Committee
- 6:30: Dinner at a San Francisco restaurant with two members of our Liver Disease & Transplant Team (spouses or partners are welcome to join)
Wednesday

Observe our nurse coordinators as they educate potential transplant patients regarding the MELD system - Liver Surgical/Medical ICU Transplant Rounds
- Interventional Endoscopy Service
Join Kenneth Binmoeller, M.D. and our interventional endoscopy team as they perform endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP) procedures - Liver Transplant Evaluation Clinic

Join our hepatologists as they evaluate patients for liver transplantation - 12:00 – 1:00: Lunch

- Meeting with Liver hospitalists
Review how specialty hospitalists and nocturnists complement inpatient liver care - Meeting with hepatologist
Discuss the hepatology practice and review indications for liver transplant and appropriateness of transplant referrals - Meeting with surgeon to review hepatobiliary cases
Meet our surgical team and discuss cases appropriate for hepatobiliary surgery - Tour Liver Immunology Laboratory
California Pacific's Liver Immunology Laboratory serves as a hub for collaborative viral hepatitis research in the San Francisco Bay Area. Founded in 2006 under the direction of Stewart Cooper M.D., the lab's focus is translational research. The laboratory combines research in immunology and hepatology by studying infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV). - Tour Hepatology Research Center
Our Hepatology Research Center has a comprehensive clinical research program, offering concurrent trials for various liver diseases. - Radiology Review Conference
Review radiology cases of liver cancer, liver masses, or other abnormalities during case discussions with the hepatology, surgery and interventional radiology teams. - 4:00 – 5:00:
- Pathology Review Conference
Review biopsy slides of pre- and post-transplant patients during case discussions with the hepatology, surgery and pathology teams.
