California Pacific Medical Center has been performing dual kidney transplants since 2000. These transplants involve the transplantation of two 'pretty good' kidneys in place of one 'excellent' one.

Because the dual kidneys typically come from older donors or those who have a history of high blood pressure or other problems, we have established certain criteria for recipients.

To be considered for a dual kidney transplant, you must:

• Be age 65 or older
• Have cardiac studies which are within normal range to tolerate the surgery

Additionally, California Pacific does not contract with Kaiser Permanente, so we cannot see patients with Kaiser insurance.
