California Pacific Medical Center is proud of being at the forefront of advances in transplantation that enhance quality of care. Our pursuit of excellence through leading edge techniques and research allows you to benefit from the latest developments and discoveries.

Below is an overview of some of our current programs. You can also read more about our history and milestones.

Clinical Trials
Our Kidney Transplant Team participates in important clinical research that often leads to improvements in transplantation outcomes. Patients may be invited to participate in critical studies of new medications that can result in better outcomes and fewer side effects. If you are interested in learning more about our clinical research trials, please see our kidney transplant clinical trial listing.

Steroid Free Protocols
In select kidney transplant recipients, immunosuppressive regimens using minimal steroids (prednisone) may be an option. These "steroid withdrawal" regimens use steroids only during the first week post-transplant. For transplant recipients who have previously experienced undesirable side effects with prednisone, this protocol may offer some relief. Ask your kidney transplant doctor for more information about steroid withdrawal immunosuppressive regimens to see if you may be eligible.

Kidney Transplant Options
California Pacific’s paired donation program is a new option for patients with an incompatible living donor. With this option, kidneys can be exchanged between two pairs consisting of a recipient and their incompatible donor, making two compatible living donor transplants possible. Our team is uses new software that enables us to better "match" donor-recipient pairs.

In addition to living donor kidney transplantation, other options offered at California Pacific include dual kidney transplantation and expanded criteria donor transplantation.

Improved Access
To make our program more convenient for patients, the kidney team offers outreach clinics throughout Northern California. These clinics enable patients to undergo pre-transplant evaluation and receive post-transplant follow up care close to home.
