Epilepsy Program - Facilities
Seizure Clinic: Provides outpatient tertiary care to children, adolescents and adults by offering evaluation and multiple treatment options for controlling epilepsy and other seizure disorders.
Inpatient Monitoring: Video-EEG-monitoring unit evaluates surgical candidates who suffer from epilepsy not controllable with standard medication and to evaluate patients suspected of having seizures.
Research: Patients have the opportunity to participate in investigational drug studies as part of our continuing commitment to neuroscience research and to give our patients access to the latest treatment options. Our Epilepsy Program has been awarded a National Institute of Health funded research grant to investigate and develop new neuroimaging techniques that will better localize the seizure focus.
Surgical Treatments: For patients with medically unmanageable epilepsy, a wide variety of surgical treatments, including resective surgery, corpus callosotomy, hemispherectomy and vagal nerve stimulator implantation, are offered after comprehensive and individualized evaluation. In selected cases, invasive EEG studies with depth, subdural and/or grid electrodes may be necessary to better localize the area responsible for the seizures.
