    Bay Area hospital executive appointed as Commissioner of The Joint Commission

    San Francisco, CA - Feb 19, 2014 - The Sutter Health West Bay Region congratulates Grant Davies, CEO of Sutter North Bay Hospitals and Executive Vice President of California Pacific Medical Center, for his appointment to the Board of Commissioners for The Joint Commission. The Joint Commission works to improve the safety and quality of health care through education, publications, and consultation and evaluation services.

    “We are delighted to have a member of our executive team be chosen to the prestigious position of board member for the Board of Commissioners,” said Mike Cohill, Sutter Health West Bay Region President. “Grant works diligently to improve the processes that address patient care and the level of service we offer at our Sutter Health West Bay region hospitals. This appointment validates his commitment and expertise as a health care professional focused on system improvements.”

    “I am honored to have been both nominated and selected to serve on the Joint Commission Board,” said Grant Davies. “The ability to participate in establishing and monitoring quality and safety standards for health care institutions across the country and around the world is exciting, especially in an era where quality and safety are in the forefront of the national discussion about health care reform.”

    Davies oversees seven acute care hospitals with more than 1,400 beds and 34,000 annual admissions in the Sutter Health West Bay region. Prior to joining Sutter Health, he managed physician practices and outpatient operations for both the University of Utah Hospital and the University of Colorado Hospital. He serves on numerous community boards, with interest in quality, safety, and health care reform. He is a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives (ACHE), a Fellow of the California Health Leadership College and recipient of the ACHE’s Regent Award and Service Award.

    The Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 20,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Their accreditation and certification are recognized internationally as symbols of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.
