California Pacific Medical Center Facilities Master Plan
Building Healthcare for Future Generations
California Pacific Medical Center is embarking on an ambitious plan to bring the next generation of healthcare to the residents of San Francisco and surrounding areas.
In part, this plan is spurred by the California law, SB 1953, which requires all hospital inpatient facilities to meet stringent seismic standards no later than January 1st, 2013. But California Pacific Medical Center also sees this as an opportunity to create environments that better support the needs of patients, patients' families, doctors, and affiliated healthcare providers in the 21st Century.
To help us achieve this, we evaluated our options at each existing campus and developed a plan that would meet the state mandate, while serving important medical center and neighborhood needs such as:
We believe our goals can be achieved with a long range development plan that includes renovations at Davies, Pacific, and St. Luke's Campuses and the creation of a new Cathedral Hill Campus.
Long Range Development Plan
Proposed Cathedral Hill site: Acute Care Hospital, including women's & children's programs
Davies Campus: Plans include acute care and emergency services with specialty programs including regional rehabilitation and neurosciences. A Neurosciences Institute including a medical office building is proposed in the near term (2010-2012), and a second medical office building is proposed on the existing parking garage (2018-2020).
Pacific Campus: Ambulatory Care Center and urgent care clinic.
California Campus: Upon completion of the Cathedral Hill Hospital, the campus is anticipated to be decommissioned and sold unless required for the provision of new medical services resulting from major advances in health care.
St. Luke's Campus:
A panel of leaders in health, business, community and labor has been convened to develop a viable plan for an acute care hospital and outpatient services at California Pacific’s St. Luke’s Campus which complements and is supported by the medical center’s comprehensive plan for all it’s campuses For up-to-date information on the Blue Ribbon Panel process go to
