American Stroke Association Award
California Pacific Medical Receives Award from the American Stroke Association
California Pacific Medical Center recently received an award from the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association (ASA) acknowledging our continuing support for San Francisco Bay Area stroke programs. California Pacific’s participation has taken a variety of forms, from hands-on events to direct patient education.
California Pacific assisted the American Stroke Association publish the San Francisco Stroke Resource Directory, a publication listing local resources for stroke survivors. To obtain your copy call the ASA at 415-433-2273.
California Pacific also sponsored the first Bay Area “Saving Strokes” event. Saving Strokes was held on May 2, 2005 at Harding Golf Course in San Francisco bringing stroke victims together with golf therapy professionals. Stroke victims received one-on-one golf instructions from professionally trained rehabilitation physical therapists that specialize in golf body mechanics. Attendees learned or relearned new ways to play golf, even learning to swing a golf club from a wheelchair. Saving Strokes empowers stroke survivors by illustrating that disabilities need not stop them from playing or learning to play golf. Keeping physically active, even improving strength and flexibility, lowers the risk for a second stroke or heart attack, and provides a social outlet for survivors and their caregivers.
