Pediatric Emergency Department Opens with Fanfare
After months of planning and construction, California Pacific Medical Center opened its Pediatric Emergency Department on November 3rd to the delight of many San Francisco area families. This facility—located in San Francisco at 3700 California Street in our Women & Children’s Center—offers care for children ages birth to 18 with emergencies such as:
- Traumatic injuries such as broken bones, athletic or head injuries, or lacerations
- Chronic illnesses such as asthma, or recurrent seizures
- Acute illness such as unexplained fever, pneumonia, croup, fever, dehydration, severe vomiting or diarrhea or abdominal pain.
The Pediatric Emergency Department (ED) is the first of its kind in the city specifically tailored to the needs of children. Focused entirely on treating infants and children in a child friendly environment, the Pediatric ED offers private rooms and child-sized equipment, as well as doctors trained in pediatrics and emergency medicine. Our Child Life staff is also an integral part of the team, helping children cope with medical emergencies and the hospital environment.
