California Pacific Medical Center has notched up yet another medical first. This time we're the first medical center in San Francisco to have a hospital devoted solely to taking care of the health needs of women and children.

The new Women and Children’s Center now houses all California Pacific’s pediatric and women’s health services on one site, at 3700 California Street. The center was specifically re-designed to offer pediatric patients and their families the best in health care services, new state-of-the-art technology, and some added home comforts to make their stay more comfortable.

“The move will make it easier for our patients to get the world-class care they have come to expect from us, in one convenient location” said Martin Brotman, M.D., President and CEO of California Pacific Medical Center. “Now instead of parents sometimes having to take their children to physicians or specialists at a couple of different locations, everything is at the same site.”

Family-Centered Care

The new center has been created with the needs of families in mind. That's why it has a new, custom-built 'Quiet Room', where parents can spend the night with their new baby, having a “trial run” taking care of them, before they leave the hospital. This means any questions they have can be answered right there, giving them a sense of comfort and confidence that they are ready to take their baby home.

That's not all. The Center will also house our Outpatient Specialty Care services and will also include:

  • A larger Pediatric Unit to make it easier for us to deliver high quality, family-centered care
  • Private Pediatric ICU rooms so that a parent can stay with his or her child
  • Bigger Pediatric Unit rooms with more space for parents and children
  • An expanded Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) that can accommodate 36 premature babies who need the most specialized of care
  • A new Play Room and Recreation Room
  • Improved Family Lounge and Kitchen

  • Elliott Main, M.D., Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology says this is an exciting time. “It’s not just a matter of bringing together all our pediatric services on one site,” he said “it’s also giving us a chance to offer more advanced, better health care for women too. For instance, we have some of the best state-of-the-art operating rooms for gynecology being developed right here at 3700 California Street.”

    Specialty Services

In addition to a new minimally invasive, gynecologic surgical program, the Women and Children’s Center will also offer Fertility Care and Genetic Screening; Prenatal, Labor and Delivery and Postpartum care; High Risk Obstetrics; Breast Health Center; Women’s Health Resource Center; Bone Density Screening; Pelvic Medicine and Incontinence Screening.

The new center is designed not just to offer the highest quality of care and level of comfort for our patients, but also to enable our staff to do an even better job caring for everyone who comes through our doors.
