Heart Smart Cooking Demonstration
On Wednesday November 2nd, the Sutter Pacific Heart Centers, the combined cardiac services of California Pacific Medical Center, Marin General Hospital, Novato Community Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital, welcomed over 100 community members for a free Heart Smart Holiday Cooking Demonstration. One of the best and longest-lasting ways to improve your heart health is through lifestyle modifications and the Sutter Pacific Heart Centers are finding new ways to help our neighbors on their journey to a longer healthier life.
Chef Bruce Paton, presently Executive Chef at The Cathedral Hill Hotel, prepared a meal consisting of a white bean with roasted tomato soup, roasted beet salad, breast of turkey, mashed sweet potatoes, sautéed kale with leeks, cranberry compote, and a chocolate mousse dessert.
As a service to the community, representatives from the cardiac programs available at the four affiliate sites were available offering tips and education on keeping your heart healthy, as well as giving away pedometers to promote exercise, and 5-minute massages to help reduce stress.
Many participants are planning on preparing the recipes supplied for a heart healthy Thanksgiving family meal. "Great ideas for healthier Thanksgiving. I cook for more than thirty guests and these ideas will work well in our recently initiated 'family fitness' program," stated one participant. "If we can save one life, or reduce heart disease in one family through lifestyle modifications these programs are valuable," said Richard Gray, M.D., Medical Director of the Sutter Pacific Heart Center.
